Leadership & Experience
CDI was founded by Jim Schlagel, a licensed B-General Contractor (#691243) and C-39 Roofing & Waterproofing Contractor (#423954).
With more than four decades of experience, Jim is recognized as one of California’s leading experts on water intrusion, structural safety, and construction defect issues.
Jim continues to oversee CDI’s operations, bringing the insight of an ICC Certified Building Inspector (#5223588) and long-time CSLB Designated Industry Expert (10+ years) to every project. His leadership ensures that our inspection practices remain accurate, compliant, and transparent.
Our Inspection Team
Every inspection at CDI is carried out by our in-house staff of licensed contractors, certified building inspectors, civil engineers, and architects. Unlike many firms, we never subcontract, ensuring consistency, accountability, and quality across every project.
Our inspectors and engineers bring decades of combined experience in construction, engineering, and waterproofing, with credentials that include:
- Licensed B-General Contractors and C-39 Roofing & Waterproofing Contractors
- ICC Certified Building Inspectors
- Licensed Civil Engineers with active California registrations
- Three licensed Architects experienced in exterior envelope design, waterproofing, and structural review
